A 15-year-old boy has died after a shooting broke out at an unpermitted music festival.

According to police, two adults and a police officer were also shot and taken to hospitals for medical treatment.

Moechella, an event described as an "Advocacy Festival Amplifying the Culture of Washington, DC," held an event celebrating Juneteenth.

However, during a press conference, police said the event was not permitted.

"All it takes is one person introducing a gun to the situation that makes it deadly and in this case, a 15-year-old lost his life," said Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee.

"My condolences to that 15-year-old's family as well as the other people that are injured," he said, adding that he will be going to the hospital to check on the police officer and his family.

Contee said that it did not appear that an exchange of gunfire occurred but multiple firearms were recovered at the scene.

However, it's unknown if those weapons had to do with this particular incident.

The shooting occurred in the area of 14th and U Street, according to the DC Police Department’s Twitter account.

Another tweet called for civilians to be on the lookout for a 5'4 suspect with curly hair and wearing all-black clothing.

Contee also stated that a conversation with the Attorney General will take place about whether the Moechella organizers will be held accountable.

Mayor Muriel Bowser echoed that statement when speaking with reporters.

"We have a child who was killed today at an event that did not have any proper planning for the number of people who were here," she said.

"The chief and I will continue to make sure we have the resources we need on these corridors, but we need some accountability here."
