Celebrity crook-a-likes! Which stars do YOU think these rogues resemble?

Football fans were shocked to learn this week that Gary Neville was in fact not on the run from prison after police announced they were searching for a man branded the footballer’s doppelgänger.

Police appealed after criminal Paul Clohessy, 36, failed to return to an open prison in Boston, Lincolnshire where he is serving a six-year sentence for drugs offenses.

But some locals mistook Clohessy for the former England and Manchester United defender, with one man saying he ‘thought it was Gary Neville at first glance,’ although others said he looked more like current England defender Harry Maguire.

But Clohessy is not the only celebrity dead ringer who has had a brush with the law. He is joined by many including a burglar with a striking resemblance to a former-Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a man who forced a sitcom star to deny he had committed a robbery in Blackpool.

Can you figure out which mugshot corresponds with which famous face?

At MailOnline we have put together a compilation of celebrity crook-a-likes who have had a brush with the law over the years.

Can you figure out which mugshot corresponds with which famous face? (answers below)

Police appealed this week after Paul Clohessy (left), 36, went on the run from prison

Lincolnshire Police appealed to the public this week after Paul Clohessy, 36, failed to return to HMP North Sea Camp in Freiston, Boston, on January 16 where he was serving a six-year prison sentence for drug offences.

Police described Clohessy as ‘white, 5ft, 11, with blue eyes. Blonde hair and is clean shaven’ with a ‘scar under his tattoo on his right arm’ and that he has a ‘tattoo on both arms’.

But Lincolnshire residents thought he looked a bit more like football pundit Gary Neville.

One joker responded to the police appeal writing: ‘Got a brother called Phil and a dad called Neville Neville?’

Locals said Clohessy bore a striking resemblance to former England star Gary Neville (left) but others said the criminal, who is serving a six-year prison sentence at HMP North Sea Camp in Boston for drug offences, looked more like England defender Harry Maguire (right)

But some Clohessy was actually a better ringer for  Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.

‘For a minute there I thought it was Harry Maguire,’ one commenter said.

Although perhaps the criminal was a unlikely mixture of both their looks, as one person said the criminal: ‘Looks like Gary Neville and harry maguire’s love child.’

On Tuesday the Lincolnshire Police said they believed that Clohessy may be in the Merseyside area, potentially in Birkenhead.

The force asked that anyone who has seen him or knows of his whereabouts, to call them on 101 and quote incident 278 of 16 January.

Australian TV news fell for a fake news story in February 2020 about a conman posing as Ed Sheeran – which used the custody photo of convicted drug dealer Andrew Campbell, from Chester.

Channel Nine’s Today Show newsreader Tracy Vo introduced the ‘news story’ by claiming a major manhunt was underway in Ohio for a man accused of robbing three churches.

‘This man has convinced three churches in his town that he is Ed Sheeran and he has performed The Shape of You in front of congregations last weekend,’ she said.

‘When the pastor was asked why he believed that the real Ed Sheeran would perform for $35 and a sandwich he thought that Ed Sheeran had fell on tough times.’

A man wanted by police in 2018 in connection with a string of burglaries became the subject of jokes online after people users saw he looked a lot like Eastenders actor Dean Gaffney.

Derek Giff, who was wanted by Devon and Cornwall Police at the time, even has the same initials as the soap star.

The force said in October 2018 that he was wanted under a court warrant for failing to appear before Plymouth magistrates charged with a number of burglaries.

After Devon and Cornwall Police tweeted a ‘wanted’ photo of him yesterday afternoon, people were quick to see his resemblance to the actor, who was famed on the show for his pet dog Wellard.

The very first reply to the post reads: ‘Looks like @deangaffney1’, tagging the actor’s own twitter account – although Mr Gaffney has not yet joined in with the fun.

Another replied ‘Lol!!! I was about to say… it’s Dean Gaffney.’

The police message asks those with knowledge of Giff’s whereabouts to get in touch, so another wag tweeted ‘He was in Eastenders last time I saw him.’

Christopher Walken lookalike Tony Kadyhrob

Christopher Walken lookalike Tony Kadyhrob who allegedly tried to abduct a student from a New Jersey college campus in 2011 was found not guilty by reason of insanity in December 2013.

Kadyhrob was arrested in March 2011 after trying to force a 19-year-old woman into his car at Rider University’s Lawrence campus.

He has been held in Trenton Psychiatric Hospital since Superior Court Judge Pedro Jimenez ruled last December that he was unfit to stand trial.

Kadyhrob was declared unfit to stand trial after being evaluated by multiple mental health experts.

‘He is in a mental unit. He is a paranoid schizophrenic. He hears voices,’ his sister explained in 2011. ‘He is not a criminal. He has been ill for about 30 years. This is the first time that he has been in trouble.’

One of the reasons that Kadyhrob was positively identified was because he looks uncannily like actor Christopher Walken, star of films such as The Deer Hunter, Pulp Fiction and King Of New York.

When Kadyhrob’s mugshot circulated online after his initial arrest, people asked if he was related to Walken because of the close resemblance. He is not.
