A WOMAN was horrifically killed after a firework became trapped in her clothes and exploded on New Year's Eve.

Elisangela Tinem, 38, was celebrating with her family on a beach in Praia Grand, Brazil, when tragedy struck.

The mum-of-two had joined revellers to watch the fireworks display before one of the rockets got caught in her clothes.

Her relatives and young children watched on in horror as the pyrotechnic then exploded before she could remove it.

Harrowing footage that has since emerged showed excited partygoers enjoying the spectacular display in the skies.

Hundreds of locals had flocked to the beach in the neighbourhood of Nova Mirim to see in the New Year.

A small crowd is then seen forming on the sand as one of the fireworks begins to sizzle, letting off huge sparks.

The pyrotechnic then explodes, seeing stunned attendees run for their lives as terrified onlookers screamed in horror.

Bystander Luiza Ferreira, 20, told local news several unauthorised fireworks displays were taking place on the beach.

He explained: "I saw a huge flash just as it turned midnight and I was hugging my mum and then everyone started screaming.
