More summer schools set up for Ukrainian children fleeing war as camps to help youngsters integrate into British life prove hugely popular

Mail Force today announces more summer schools for Ukrainian children in the UK after the first places in the scheme were snapped up.

The camps to help youngsters integrate into British life have proved hugely popular.

More than 95,000 Ukrainians have fled to Britain and, thanks to the exceptional generosity of Mail readers, tens of thousands of places across the country have been taken up.

Mail Force has now raised £1.25million for the scheme. Three of the providers are completely full, but now Camp Beaumont is joining the cause.

Camp Beaumont runs activity weeks in 45 locations across London and the South East for children aged five to 16. Chief Jof Gaughan said: ‘It’s the perfect place for children who’ve been through so much to have fun this summer. They might even get to try Quidditch!’

For Anastasia Shcherban, 36, and her children Alexander, six, and Dmitry, two, a camp run by St Mary’s Ukrainian School in London will be a welcome distraction from memories of fleeing their home in Kyiv.

Her husband Sergei, 36, stayed behind to fight. ‘We are sincerely grateful,’ she said. ‘We left through checkpoints and sirens. The British have greeted us with smiles and sympathy.’
