Another former model has claimed that she was dating playboy Dodi Fayed at the same time as he was wooing Princess Diana.

Annie Cardone, now a women’s rights campaigner, says that she was in a relationship with the multi-millionaire film producer during the summer of 1997.

Her revelation comes 25 years after former Vogue cover girl Kelly Fisher claimed that she was engaged to the Chariots of Fire producer.

‘What a lot of people don’t realise is that in the same summer that Dodi was dating Princess Diana and Kelly Fisher, he was also dating me,’ Miss Cardone said.

‘I haven’t spoken about my relationship with Dodi in 25 years, because at the time the crash happened, I didn’t feel it was appropriate.

‘I felt that it was time to tell the truth, come forward and talk about the person he really was, the person that I loved.’

Miss Cardone made her bombshell revelations in the forthcoming Channel 5 documentary Dodi: Last Days of a Playboy, which screens on Wednesday.

She claims that she met the Harrods heir in the summer of 1996 at the London nightclub Tramp and had a ‘fantastic romance that lasted almost a year’.

‘When I first met Dodi back in the nineties, he was definitely coming off of whatever was going on with him in terms of drugs in LA,’ she added.

It was not until August 10, 1997, when a newspaper published pictures of Dodi kissing Princess Diana, that Miss Cardone realised who her rival was

‘It’s quite hard for me to say this, because I feel very protective of him, but I did see him disappear into the bathrooms with groups of people.

‘It used to really upset me. In fact, I once left a party and left him there because I was so angry about it.

‘I saw him, you know Dodi, doing drugs as a huge weakness and feeding into what the people around him wanted him to be. He had a lot of anxiety in social settings.

‘I think it made him be the party Dodi he wanted to be, to fit in, to be like everybody else. And I think that was a real problem for him.’

However, the relationship drew to a close as Miss Cardone believed he had lost interest in her.

‘You know I felt there was someone else,’ she tells the programme. ‘I sensed it. Something is different, something cool.

‘How he was with me physically was different. I’d had enough. This is not the life I wanted. I was going to break up with him. I was going to have it out with him.

‘So, I got to his apartment and I said: “This is a roller coaster I don’t want to be on anymore. I love you, but I don’t want to be with you anymore. I deserve better.”

‘He fell to the floor. He was sobbing, begging me to stay and give him another chance… I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was just in absolute shock.’

Miss Cardone spoke of her experiences in the forthcoming Channel 5 documentary Dodi: Last Days of a Playboy, which screens on Wednesday.

Within a week, model Kelly Fisher, had also come forward claiming that she was engaged to the son of Mohammed Al Fayed.

She filed a £275,000 lawsuit against Dodi for ‘breach of promise’ and ‘distress’ after spotting the couple kissing on his father’s yacht Jonikal.

Fisher, who currently works as a property developer and is married to pilot Mikhail Movshina, claimed that she met Dodi in Paris in July 1996.

She alleged that he proposed to her in November that year, asking her parents for their permission.

‘At the time, I thought maybe Kelly was a rebound,’ added Miss Cardone, ‘but obviously they’d been together for a year. So, it coincided with his business trips to LA.

‘It was a bit of a shock to see this person come forward and say she was engaged to my boyfriend when we were together. That was a bit of an eye opener.’

Dodi: Last Days of a Playboy airs on Channel 5 at 9pm on Wednesday, December 7.
