Commentors have been left in hysterics after police called for help identifying a man – who looks just like the Grim Reaper.

North Yorkshire police are looking for the ominous figure following a burglary in Acomb, York.

But social media jokers have flocked to the post – saying officers need to be careful as they try to track down the spooky apparition.

Others quickly chimed in – comparing him to Voldemort and supervillan Skeletor.

One – John Candlish – laughed: ‘If you do see him don’t walk towards the light. Just wait for the ambulance and hope they will restart your heart.’

Another – Richard Stone – replied: ‘Check with the local undertakers.’

Martyn Russell joked that an artist’s impression had arrived – posting a picture of Edvard Munch’s iconic masterwork The Scream, which shows a hollow face howling in front of a red sky.

And Nic Barron Knowles and Tracy Anne Temple exclaimed ‘Grim Reaper!?’ and ‘Run for your life!’

Police pleaded for information – saying the man might have important information that could help with their investigation into the burglary.

The incident – on May 7 – saw a house being entered and a number of items stolen.

But superhero fans cracked on with their japes – comparing the police picture to Master of the Universe supervillan Skeletor.

Kelly Pearson chimed in with: ‘Skeletor! He Man’s mate.’

And helpful Jo Thompson added: ‘It’s Voldemort. You’re welcome.’

Ben Cook joked: ‘Should try sun tan lotion shops…’

But some were more cautious to mock the mystery figure.

Tracy Anne Temple said: ‘I made a fun comment but actually, anyone in this day and age looking like that needs help. Hope he gets it.’

And Janet Peacock added: ‘He needs to visit the local pie shop, poor soul.’
