A suspected gangland shooting that saw a mother ‘killed in front of her teenage daughter’ occurred along Hackney’s ‘Murder Mile’ – a stretch of the East London borough where 11 people have been killed in two decades due to ‘gang warfare.’

Police have said they are investigating whether the death of Lianne Gordon, 42, in Clapton is connected to a separate incident on Saturday in which shell casings were found.

At the time of Lianne’s shooting on Tuesday evening, neighbours had assumed the loud bangs they had heard from the street were fireworks.

Tragically, the noises that shattered the early evening lull were a throwback to the area’s violent past where the sight and sound of guns were all too common.

In years previous, the mile-long stretch of road between upper and lower Clapton was known as the most dangerous area in London.

‘Beautiful’ mother Lianne Gordon was gunned down and killed in a horrific triple shooting in Hackney on Tuesday

11 people have been killed along Hackney’s ‘Murder Mile’ since 1997 ‘due to gangs’

In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Clapton Road, or as it was otherwise known the ‘murder mile’ was the site of eight fatal shootings.

Since 2001, two further victims – Moses Federo and Israel Ogunsola – have been added to the area’s ignominious tally sheet.

And now with the death of Lianne Gordon, the area’s reputation is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Those who were present at the time of the senseless killing have told MailOnline the incident happened in a blaze of noise and confusion.

The 11 fatal killings that made Hackney’s ‘Murder Mile’

January 1997 – Guy Dance Dacres

16-year-old Guydance Dacres was shot dead whilst dancing with his friends in the Chimes nightclub.

Despite 300 people being inside the club at the time, his murder has not been solved.

August 1999- Unknown man

Witnesses reported seeing a man being shot dead along the road. Four men were seen fleeing the scene.

May 2000 – Mehmet Adiguzel

In May 2000, police informant and casual drug dealer Mehmet Adiguzel was ambushed and killed in his car.

Witnesses say they saw a masked man run over to the car and repeatedly shoot him in the face and neck.

June 2000 – Menelik Robinson

Whilst driving his car up Upper Clapton Road, Menelik Robinson was ambushed by two men driving motorbikes.

After forcing him to stop, one of the men was seen approaching the driver’s window and shooting him.

October 2000 – Unknown man

Witnesses reported seeing a man shot on the pavement. His identity and the culprit have never been identified.

December 2000 – Antony Rose-Windon

Antony Rose-Windon was shot just after leaving the Chimes nightclub.

He managed to crawl to Kenning Hall Road before he died.

April 2001 – Corey Wright and Wayne Henry

Whilst sitting outside a nightclub, Corey Wright and Wayne Henry were approached by masked men.

They were each shot multiple times.

September 2015 – Moses Federo

After ten years without a fatal shooting, in September 2015 gunshots shattered the tranquility of the now gentrified area.

Three men approached Moses Federo, 25, before he was shot several times on Chatsworth Road.

He was seen running into a butcher’s shop asking for help before collapsing nearby in a pool of blood. He died at the scene.

April 2018 – Israel Ogunsola

18-year-old student Israel Ogunsola was found fatally wounded by officers in Hackney.

December 2023 – Lianne Gordon

Three people were found with gunshot wounds after police were called to reports of a shooting in Vine Close.

Tragically, Lianne Gordon died at the scene.

One anonymous resident recalled: ‘We just heard a couple of gunshots, which we though were fireworks.

‘One of my housemates heard a woman screaming. Then we just saw lots of lights outside.’

Others have testified they heard a terrified child screaming ‘my mum’s been shot in the head’ after the incident – which also hospitalised a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man.

It has been claimed Lorraine was shot whilst protecting her 16-year-old daughter from ‘gangsters’.

Police hunting the gunman have since revealed they are probing whether shots fired at a car on the same road just days earlier could be linked to the case.

Officers had found shell casings on Saturday night at Vine Close however found ‘no trace of any victim or suspect’ and are now investigating if it should be treated as a separate incident or linked to Tuesday’s fatal shooting.

Local residents said they believe Lianne may have run out of her home during the shooting, with a local garage worker claiming that she shouted out ‘No, don’t do it’ shortly before the shots were fired.

The confusion surrounding the shooting is similar to other tragic events that have dogged the residential community in recent memory.

Between 1997 and 2001, eight men were shot dead along the road, in crimes suspected to be gang related.

None of the men’s killers have ever been brought to justice.

In January 1997, 16-year-old Guydance Dacres was enjoying his first ever night out in the Chimes nightclub along Clapton Road.

Senselessly, he was shot dead inside whilst dancing with his friends.

Despite 300 people being inside the club at the time, his murder has not been solved.

In 2019, his mother Eugenie Albert criticised the Metropolitan Police’s investigation into his death and urged anyone with information about her son’s death to come forward.

She told the Hackney Gazette: ‘The police were careless. They didn’t do DNA on the gun or clothes or follow up leads. I’ve phoned Scotland Yard twice to find out if his file was still open and they said: ‘Yes it is’, but I don’t think they are doing anything.

‘These kids who were there, they have children now of their own. Would they like their son or daughter to go out and get killed like that? And no one says who done it?

‘This person had no reason to shoot Guydance. The police said he was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. I just wish somebody would say: ‘I would like to say what I have seen that night, I believe I saw some person with a gun’.

‘Somebody must have seen it.’

Two years later, in May 2000, police informant and casual drug dealer Mehmet Adiguzel was ambushed and killed in his car.

Witnesses say they saw a masked man run over to the car and repeatedly shoot him in the face and neck.

A month later, whilst driving his car up Upper Clapton Road, Menelik Robinson was ambushed by two men driving motorbikes.

After forcing him to stop, one of the men was seen approaching the driver’s window and shooting him multiple times.

Six months later in December 2000, Antony Rose-Windon was shot just after leaving the Chimes nightclub.

And five years later, the community has once again had to re-acclimatise to police cordons outside their homes.

For some speaking in the aftermath of the attack, it’s too much to take.

Yesterday, a woman living on Vine Close told MailOnline she did not wish to comment but simply wanted to ‘get out of this property’.

Meranwhile Mustafa Talat, who has lived in the area for around 16 years, said he had presumed the shots he had heard were fireworks but wasn’t overly surprised by the crime.

‘I thought I’d heard a firework around 7pm,’ the father, who runs boxing initiative Shanks Down Gloves Up, said.

‘This is terrible… I have noticed lately when I leave my house there has been some drug taking going on.’

Lianne Gordon’s death has devastated her local community who are in shock over what happened

Reassuring the community in the wake of Lianne Gordon’s death, Detective Superintendent Vicky Tunstall, from the local policing team in Hackney, said: ‘This shocking incident has resulted in the death of a woman and my thoughts are with her family at this incredibly difficult time.

‘My thoughts are also with the two people who have been taken to hospital.

‘We are still in the early stages of our investigation and a team of specialist detectives are working to establish what has happened.

‘I do not underestimate the impact this incident will have on people in Hackney and I understand the community will want answers about what has happened this evening. We will share further information as our investigation progresses.

‘Gun crime has no place on the streets of London and we will do all we can to bring whoever is responsible for this despicable crime to justice.’

There have been no arrests.
