Doorbell footage has captured the moment a mother begged her jealous ex-boyfriend to leave her house after he attacked her with a brick.

Shannon Johnson, 25, was left with horrific injuries after her ex boyfriend, Thomas Bardsley, 34, followed her home and launched a brutal assault.

The-mother-of-one had just returned from the pub with a group of friends and was having a cigarette when Bardsley showed up and threatened to kill her. Moments later, he grabbed Shannon’s neck and pressed his thumbs into her windpipe.

Bardsley then picked up a brick from the floor and began bashing Shannon on the head ‘over and over’. Luckily within minutes, Shannon’s new partner came out the house, and chased him off, saving her life.

Ring doorbell footage shows the moment that Bardsley later returned to the house, covered in Shannon’s blood begging to be let in to see her new boyfriend.

Bardsley was jailed for ten years in January this year after being found guilty of wounding with intent and threats to kill.

The admin worker, from Sussex, said: ‘Thomas is a monster. When he attacked me that night, I thought he’d kill me.

‘My own daughter, who was eight months old at the time, didn’t recognise me for weeks due to my injuries. It was horrific.

‘Please, remember Thomas’ name and face and steer clear. He’ll make your life a misery.’

Shannon was 21 when she started dating Bardsley, who is ten years older.

They went on their first date in July 2019 and just two weeks later, Bardsley confessed to loving Shannon.

Shannon said: ‘At first, he acted like the perfect boyfriend. Showering me with compliments, treating me to meals out. But two months later, he changed.’

According to Shannon, when Bardsley drank, he picked fights and was aggressive.

She added: ‘He’d kick me in back of my legs when we were in bed together. But when I confronted him, he’d blame the booze.’

Months earlier Shannon had planned a charity trip to Cambodia with work. But when it was time to go, Bardsley was unhappy.

A few days after Shannon landed, he bombarded her with texts, accusing her of cheating, demanding she come home.

She said her own daughter didn’t recognise her for weeks following the burtal attack

Shannon said: ‘I tried to calm him down but nothing worked. After a few days, he started messaging my work colleagues, insisting I go home. It was embarrassing.’

Eventually Shannon returned home early, and Bardsley acted like the perfect boyfriend again, but it didn’t last long.

In January 2020, Shannon discovered she was pregnant but Bardsley said he didn’t want it and asked her to terminate the baby.

Sadly, at 11 weeks gone, Shannon suffered a miscarriage and contracted sepsis.

She said: ‘I was devastated to lose the baby and was incredibly poorly. Thomas wasn’t sympathetic, so I’d had enough and ended things with him.’

But a few months later, in July, she bumped into Bardsley at a friend’s BBQ and they got back together. She fell pregnant with his baby in August.

Shannon said: ‘Again, Thomas refused to go to any scans and wasn’t excited about the baby.’

‘He called me horrible names and my friend who was visiting at the time, asked him to leave. I didn’t want him near me or the baby after that, so I got a non molestation order against him.’

In April 2021, Shannon’s daughter, now two, was born and after a few months, she met someone new.

She added: ‘When Thomas found out, he abused me in street. It scared me.’

In December 2021, when her daughter was eight months old, Shannon went to a pub on a night out with friends and saw Bardsley there too.

As she headed home, she spotted him crouched on the ground on her road and when she walked past, he told her ‘It’s you, the devil’.

Terrified, she hurried home but Bardsley later appeared outside her door without any shoes on, while she was having a cigarette.

She threatened to call the police but Bardsley replied ‘I’ll kill you’.

Moments later, he grabbed Shannon’s neck and pressed his thumbs into her windpipe.

Shannon said: ‘He released one hand and I heard him fumbling around on the ground. Terrified, I started to scream. But then I felt a heavy object slam into my head over and over.’

Within minutes, Shannon’s new partner came out the house, and chased him off while Shannon fled inside and called 999.

But Bardsley later returned to the address, lurking outside, covered in her blood. He was caputured on her ring cam doorbell, begging to be let in to see Shannon’s boyfriend.

When an ambulance arrived Bardsley fled and Shannon was taken to Worthing Hospital where she was given multiple stitches after a CT scan showed a severe laceration to her head which exposed her skull.

Shannon says: ‘Back at home, my eyes and face were so swollen, my daughter didn’t recognise me and kept asking for her mum. It was heartbreaking.’

Police meanwhile arrested Bardsley and in June last year he appeared at Lewes Crown Court. He was found guilty of wounding with intent and threats to kill.

He was sentenced in January to ten years and handed a lifelong restraining order.

Shannon said: ‘If it hadn’t had been for my partner, I might have died that night. Thomas is evil and nearly left his own daughter without her mum.

‘Now I want other women and men to recognise the signs of an abusive relationship and get out before it’s too late.’
