Croydon explosion: House collapses in horror blast and fire as neighbours evacuated | The Sun

A HOUSE has collapsed after a horror explosion and fire ripped through a residential area in Croydon.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are at the scene on Galpin's Road in Thornton Heath, South London.


The London Fire Brigade said a terraced house had collapsed amid the carnage which unfolded around 7am this morning.

Firefighters are still working to extinguish a blaze at the house, MyLondon reported.

London Ambulance Service said they are responding to the incident with a number of resources on the scene.

The Metropolitan Police told The Sun the London Fire Brigade are leading the operation.

Neighbours were evacuated by emergency services following the blast.

It is not known what caused the explosion.

And it is unclear if anyone is injured.

Residents living nearby described hearing the explosion, with one writing on Facebook: "The bang frightened the life out of me.

Another added: "I don’t even live close but I thought I heard a massive bang around that time and couldn’t figure out what it could be.

Fire crews from Norbury, Mitcham, West Norwood, Woodside and surrounding fire stations were called to the scene around 7.08am this morning.
