A BRITISH schoolteacher was killed by a stray bullet in a freak accident while on holiday in South Africa.

Mum-of-four Fatima Issa, 47, died after being struck by a single round fired from a pistol while visiting family and friends in a suburb ofJohannesburg.

Police inquiries continued last night as conflicting reports emerged last night as to how the much-loved mum was killed.

Her family were at first told the fatal shot was fired by a 14-year-old girl playing with a loaded gun in a house on the Meyersdal View Estate on the outskirts of the crime-plagued city.

But South African sources reported last night that the gun went off while it was being cleaned inside the property.

The bullet is believed to have ricocheted off the wall before striking Fatima, from Leicester, who died soon after in hospital.

Police sources said her 19-year-old daughter Humairah had travelled with her on holiday and witnessed the horror.

Fatima’s colleagues at the City of Leicester College were in shock last night and paid tribute to her in an online post.

It read: “Everyone at The City of Leicester College is deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic passing of our colleague and friend Fatima Issa.

“We all wish her family courage and peace during this time.”

Fatima’s Leicester Council worker husband, Fayaz, 47, had enjoyed family holidays with her before in Cape Town South Africa but was in the UK when she was killed.

He was flying to meet police at the scene of the tragedy last night with the couple’s eldest son, Huzaifah, 21.

Fatima’s brother Ebrahim confirmed her death yesterday, writing on Facebook : “Request duas (prayers) for my sister Fatima Lambat Issa , who has returned to the mercy of Allah.”

A source told The Sun last night: “This has come as a total shock for the family.

“Fatima was a much-loved mother of four enjoying a holiday with family in South Africa but she has somehow been shot dead.

“Her loved ones will be demanding to know how on earth this happened and how on earth she came so close to someone with a loaded gun.
