A TEEN was shot dead by Paris police triggering a night of rioting after a cop warned him he would "lodge a bullet in his head".

Nael M, 17, was gunned down at the wheel of a Mercedes in the western suburb of Nanterre in France on Tuesday morning.

The shooting sent shockwaves through the country while protestors took to the streets of Paris and clashed with cops.

The anger among the public only intensified when Nael's family shared the first picture of him, with 24 arrests made so far.

His loved ones have vowed they would "never forgive" police for the killing that was described as "an execution" by horrified witnesses.

The French-Algerian delivery driver was shot dead after being stopped by an officer for violating traffic laws at around 8.30am.

Verified video shows an armed traffic cop pointing his service pistol into Nael's hired Mercedes AMG and saying: "I’m going to lodge a bullet in your head."

There is then a bang and the car lurches forward, with the officer allegedly firing at point blank range as the teen tried to steer away before crashing into a barricade.

Two other passengers were allegedly in the car with Nael during the incident – one fled, while the other was taken into custody.

Emergency services tried to resuscitate the young driver but it was too late and he was pronounced dead at around 9am.

Nael's devastated mother, who asked not to be named, shared a photo of her smiling son along with the words: "The love of my life."

She sobbed: "I lost a 17-year-old, I was alone with him, and they took my baby away from me. He was still a child, he needed his mother."

His grandmother echoed her grief, adding: "I will never forgive them.

"My grandson died, they killed my grandson. We are not happy at all, I am against the government. 

"They killed my grandson, now I don't care about anyone, they took my grandson from me, I will never forgive them in my life, never, never, never."

Prosecutors confirmed that the unnamed officer responsible for the shooting was being investigated for "murder."

Cops claimed Nael had been driving the car erratically.

"At first police said the teenager had tried to run them over, but they changed their tune when the video appeared," said an investigating source.

The shooting happened close to the Nanterre-Prefecture RER train station, near Nelson-Mandela Square, behind La Défense business district.

As youths began to pour out onto the streets, setting fire to dustbins and buildings including the town hall in the suburb of Mantes-la-Jolie, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin appealed for calm.

He told the National Assembly in Paris that the images posted on social media were "extremely shocking and worrying," and urged people to "respect the grief of the family and the presumption of innocence of the police".

A video on Twitter shows the town hall of Val Fourré – 30 miles away from Nanterre – allegedly burning down in the early hours of this morning, as police and protesters continued to come to blows.

Officers wearing riot gear were seen in Nanterre and neighbouring areas as protesters threw firecrackers towards them.

Dispersion grenades and tear gas have been unleashed upon protesters outside of local police headquarters.

Firework mortars were set off in the area as protests raged on.

One video seemed to show a police vehicle fleeing from the fireworks raining down on them.

But Paris police chief Laurent Nunez said the action of the officer "raises questions", while claiming that the officer may have "felt threatened."

Nael's family lawyer, Yassine Bouzrou, said the video "clearly showed a policeman killing a young man in cold blood."

"This is a long way from any kind of legitimate defence," he added.

Bouzrou said the family had filed a complaint, accusing police of "lying" after they initially claimed the car had tried to run down the officers.

Nanterre mayor Patrick Jarry said he was "shocked" by the video and passed his "sincere condolences to the boy's mother."

The IGPN national police force is opening an investigation into today's events, as the riots spread further outside of Nanterre.

Last year, there were a record 13 deaths after refusals by drivers to stop for traffic controls in France. 

Five police officers have been charged in connection with these cases. 

The most recent protests in France come on the tails of months of unrest following President Macron's unwanted pension reform.

Violence erupted on the streets of Paris after the President's controversial plan to raise the country's pension age from 62 to 64 was approved by the country's highest constitutional court.

Protesters clashed with police in several cities across France after the verdict was announced.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside Paris city hall and booed the court decision.

An angry mob made their way to Bastille Square, lighting fires and confronting the police.

"It is an illegal march, and some of those involved are intent on violence," said a police officer at the scene.

"Bins and hire bikes are being set alight, and the flames are spreading, while missiles are being thrown at officers."

A vast security operation was rolled out to protect the Council, which is housed in Royal Palace in central Paris.
