April 15, 2023A MASSIVE search was launched after a person was reportedly swept out to sea at Brighton Pier.
Emergency services rushed to hunt for the swimmer as waves pummelled the coast yesterday.
Searches by the coastguard and RNLI began at 3.50pm.
In a statement, they said: "Emergency services were called to a report of a person seen going into the water by Brighton Pier at about 3.50pm on Wednesday (April 12) in extremely rough sea conditions.
"Searches by the Shoreham and Newhaven RNLI lifeboats and the coastguard helicopter are currently ongoing along with coastguard teams and police on the shoreline"
They later revealed a woman had died after reports of a body being pulled out of the water.
Sussex Police also stated her death is not being treated as suspicious.
A Sussex police spokesman stated: “Emergency services conducted a search off Brighton beach shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, April 11.
“Sadly, the body of a woman was found.
“Her next of kin have been informed.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.”
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard’s Newhaven, Littlehampton and Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Teams, alongside Shoreham and Newhaven RNLI all-weather lifeboats, Sussex Police and the Coastguard helicopter from Lee-On-Solent are coordinating a search for a possible person in the water at Brighton Palace Pier, following concerns first raised to emergency services shortly before 4pm today (April 12).”
