Policeman 'boasted about celebrity pals' before 'raping woman he met in club after she trusted him because he was a cop' | The Sun

A COMMUNITY police support officer boasted about his celebrity friends before raping a young woman in his mother’s flat, a court heard.

Former Sussex PCSO Jamal ‘Bertie’ Robinson gave the young woman his badge to hold and claimed cops could get free VIP treatment after meeting her in a Brighton nightclub.

The woman said she agreed to go home with the officer after saying she felt safe with policemen.

Mr Robinson, 29, said he had his dream job with the Met and bragged about owning properties in London and Brighton before taking the woman back to him mum’s in Worthing.

It was here where despite being firmly told "no" – he raped the young woman.

Lewes Crown Court heard how on the night of Friday December 14, 2019, the officer approached her and her friend at the bar in a Brighton nightclub.

The woman, now aged 21, said she had drunk more than she normally would on a night out after having Christmas drinks at home with her family.

She told police: “He said let me sort you out, buying me and my friend a drink."

It was then that Mr Robinson "kept talking about being a police officer" before the group, included the coppers pal, moved onto another club where they claimed they get "free VIP" entry.

While in the club Mr Robinson bragged about knowing YouTubers Conor Maynard and Caspar Lee and told the woman he was sending a video of them in the club to the YouTube stars.

The woman described Mr Robinson as being "very up himself" and "intimidating" – he then put his number into her phone with a police emoji next to it.

Later, the officer asked the women to go home with him and his friend.

She told police: “I think he thought ‘Why would she not want to?’ He was very cold.”

She added: “I had a chat with my friend. She was more cautious than I was. She said come on they’re not going to break the law.”

After consenting to sex, the woman told police she said No when Mr Robinson tried to have sex again – but he didn't listen and did not stop.

“I was very firm,” she said in a police interview. "I said it hurts, I’m in pain, I’m tired, I need to go home".

She said: “I said I’m not in the mood for sex, I’m not in the mood for any of this, I literally said No.

“I usually just keep silent and get it over with. I thought he would listen given who he was and what he does.

“I kept my eyes shut. I’ve been in this position so many times before."

The woman said she told her friend: “He made me do things I didn’t want to do, I’m in so much pain. I think I’m going to cry.”

The young woman reported the rape after returning to college on Monday morning.

She said: “I didn’t want to say the word, I said he forced me to have sex.”

The woman said she lost faith in police after meeting Mr Robinson.

Edward Hand for the Crown told the jury at Lewes Crown Court: “This case is about a small group of young people meeting up at night, going back to one of their houses.

“There comes a point where she says she doesn’t want any more sex and he carries on, that’s what this case is about. She agreed to sexual contact, albeit reluctantly.

“She went on to tell police told the defendant she didn’t want sex and pretended to be asleep.

“Sexual activity instigated by him. She was reluctant to go on with it.

“The allegation in this case is she didn’t consent and he would’ve known that,” Mr Hand said.
