Children living with cancer this Christmas receive gifts thanks to kindhearted Sun on Sunday readers

December 19, 2021

AFTER a huge response from generous Sun readers buying Christmas cards to help kids with cancer, Santa this week delivered presents bought with YOUR cash to hospitals in London, Bristol and Glasgow.

The Sun on Sunday invited children to draw festive pictures, with three winners’ efforts turned into limited-edition cards.

Sold by our campaign partner Young Lives vs Cancer, every penny went to buy gifts for kids at the charity’s Homes from Home, where young patients and their families can stay during treatment.

And this week, Santa brought smiles to the likes of two-year-old Aurora-Grace Turnbull, who was just two weeks old when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called neuroblastoma.

Her mum Emily, 31, a charity worker, said: “To have presents given to those children through this amazing campaign is magical.

"As soon as Aurora-Grace was diagnosed we were given a Young Lives vs Cancer social worker called Heather.

“The clinical staff were brilliant and focused on saving Aurora-Grace.

"But Heather was there for us as a family, with support, help, kindness and love. She focused on us while we focused on our daughter.”

Emily and partner Matt Tildesley, 36, a policeman, learned in March 2019 their new baby was very ill.

Mum also to six-year-old Jacob, Emily says: “Nothing can prepare you for that kind of news.

"She’d just come into the world and seemed so tiny to be fighting such a huge battle.”

Happily the tot, who adores CBeebies, playing outside and dancing, has been in remission since June 2019.

But she continues to visit Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children for vital scans.

Emily adds: “We’ve kept a diary and taken pictures in treatment to explain what happened to her when she gets older.”
