Apple Launches LumiHealth in Partnership with Singaporean…

September 16, 2020

While the LumiHealth initiative is the first of Apple’s health involvement with a federal government, the company has already had some partnerships with businesses in this sphere.

Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) has partnered with the government of Singapore to improve the health and well-being of Singaporeans through the LumiHealth initiative. As announced by Apple (AAPL), the LumiHealth program is available as an app on the Apple Watch, and its the culmination of a two-year process beginning with the government of Singapore asking international healthcare and technology companies to process ways to improve the well being of its citizens.

With the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdowns, many around the world have had to adapt to lifestyle changes they are unused to. The LumiHealth program will help the masses keep fit through ingeniously designed fitness games and personalized services made possible through the Apple Watch.

“Even as all of us around the world are dealing with the challenges of COVID-19, we must keep investing in our future. And there is no better investment than in our own personal health,” said Heng Swee Keat, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister. “This partnership between Singapore and Apple will enable Singaporeans to lead healthier lives, but equally important, it will contribute valuable insights into improving the health of people all over the world.”

What Apple LumiHealth Program Will Offer

Part of the offerings the Apple LumiHealth program will offer include personalized reminders for health and fitness-related activities. Users will also have access to activity coaching, as well as receiving incentives for keeping to the scheduled tasks.

Within the LumiHealth app, users travel through worlds with a friendly intergalactic explorer who guides them through tasks that are personalized based on their age, gender, and weight. In addition, the activities the program enhances will range from walking, jogging, swimming, yoga, and the likes. Reminders to get immunization and vaccination are also added services that make the Apple LumiHealth program unique.

“Singapore has one of the world’s leading healthcare systems, and we are thrilled to be partnering with them to incorporate Apple Watch and LumiHealth into their holistic approach to well-being,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Apple Watch has already helped millions of our customers manage their activity levels to improve their health, and we look forward to applying our expertise here in the same privacy-friendly way that distinguishes all Apple products and services.”

As part of its commitment to the program, the Singaporean government will offer S$380 to participants who complete the tasks through the two years span for the program.

Apple Watch On Track With Helping to Improve Well Being

The technology behind Apple Watch and design has been targeted at helping people lead healthy lives. While the LumiHealth initiative is the first of Apple’s health involvement with a federal government, the company has had health tracking partnerships with companies including Aetna.

Apple Watch is capable of tracking sleep as much as it can track physical exercises. Drawing on the positive of the LumiHealth program, Myoung Cha, the executive at Apple Health who led the initiative told CNBC that the company worked with the government of Singapore to build something they thought citizens would actually use. “It was co-designed to encourage healthy habits of Singaporeans through gamification and the power of Apple Watch,” he said
