  • Chase has launched a new bonus points promotion for spending in popular categories on select co-branded cards. The offers are targeted, so check your email to see if you're eligible and activate the bonus.
  • Eligible cardholders will earn 5x at Amazon and 3x or 5x on groceries on up to $1,500 in combined purchases per month from November 1 to December 31.
  • These are decent bonuses, but you may get a better return if you use one of the best credit cards for Amazon purchases or groceries.
  • The limited-time grocery bonus on the Chase Sapphire cards could also prove more valuable for those who know how to maximize Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, credit card issuers have come up with new ways to earn and redeem rewards that appeal to customers who are sticking closer to home. Chase recently announced a limited-time bonus on grocery purchases for Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders, and now select co-branded cardholders can earn extra points and miles on everyday purchases as well.

From November 1 through December 31, targeted customers will earn 5 or 3 total points per dollar on groceries and 5 points per dollar on Amazon purchases, up to a combined total of $1,500 in spending per month. If you're eligible, you'll receive an email to activate the offer, but not all Chase cards are included in the promotion, and the bonus varies depending on the card.

With the holidays approaching, it should be easy to maximize this bonus and earn a significant chunk of points or miles. That said, before you shift your purchases to one of these cards, be sure to compare what you'd earn if you used one of the best credit cards for groceries or Amazon instead. Not all points and miles have the same value, so you'll want to pick the card that gives you the best return.

If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® in your wallet, it could make more sense to earn 2x or 3x points on groceries with the current limited-time Sapphire promotion instead of up to 5x airline miles or hotel points. You can typically squeeze more value from Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and you'll have more redemption choices — including transferring points to over a dozen airline and hotel transfer partners. With these Sapphire cards, you can also use the Pay Yourself Back option and redeem points toward grocery, dining, and home improvement purchases with a 25% (Sapphire Preferred) or 50% (Sapphire Reserve) bonus through April 30, 2021.
