Discussions.app Expands To Telos Blockchain To Give Users Control Over Online Social ProfilesSeptember 4, 2020
Blockchain platform Telos has announced that Discussions.app is expanding to the Telos blockchain, largely to ensure it stays ahead of the technological curve with advanced governance features, Telos EVM and digital identity solutions.
Telos is a high-capacity network and the second most active blockchain platform in the world according to Blocktivity. Telos features a robust, third-generation blockchain governance system including advanced voting features and smart contracts that can be fully configured to meet the needs of any developer. Telos also supports the blockchain ecosystem by serving as an incubator and accelerator for decentralized applications.
Powered by the ATMOS token, Discussions.app is a decentralized, Reddit-inspired social aggregation platform that empowers users to control their own digital identity and connections while sharing content from anywhere on the web. The app allows users to migrate across platforms without losing the connections they’ve built up over the years. With Discussions.app, users can maintain their identity and valuable connections across social networks regardless of unilateral actions by the platforms themselves.
The partnership will see the user-voted Telos Works incubator and accelerator program support Discussions.app and provide funds to more rapidly expand to the Telos network.
According to Discussions.app, it was drawn to Telos because of its advanced features including Telos EVM, a faster way to create and deploy Ethereum-compatible smart contracts with zero transaction fees. Discussions said that the Telos EVM will enable them to deploy, test and bring to market innovations at an accelerated rate, allowing them to always be at the forefront of blockchain technology, wherever that might come from. The Telos blockchain’s high capacity and low cost is expected to help Discussions.app effectively scale its user base globally.
“Since the launch of Discussions.app two years ago, our mission has always been to give users back the control over their online social lives,” said Jacques Xu, Co-Founder of Discussions.app. “Telos helps us accelerate this mission in a time when our online social infrastructures are falling apart. This is more than just a partnership, it’s a collaboration to build a fairer and more sustainable way forward.”
The first project the companies will collaborate on is a decentralized identity system, starting with a tool that lets people record their Twitter accounts on the blockchain. When people get locked out or banned from Twitter, their friends still know where they can find them.
“It seems that every few days I see another unique voice de-platformed and the connections they invested years building pulled out from under them like a cheap rug–especially in the crypto community. Discussions.app empowers individuals to secure their own social networks immune to the whims of Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. At Telos, we share this vision of the empowerment of individuals,” said Douglas Horn, Telos Chief Architect. “I look forward to their global expansion so they can help more people worldwide. Meanwhile, they are adding Telos and leveraging our rapid development of cutting-edge features to future-proof the dapp for their users. I see Discussions as a key player in the future of securing digital identity and social connections for individuals.”
